Candy and Salad... |
I hope everyone had a great weekend! We had a great time with family yesterday! The boys are getting older, so we did not do the Easter Bunny thing. They don't eat that much candy anymore and they just don't care about that stuff now. We were invited to a family get together at the illustrator's cousin's house where an Easter egg hunt took place. That side of the family has a lot of kids and my boys, while not interested in the basket thing, loves a good egg hunt! So, they had a blast with all the other kids!
I took my obligatory hummus (if you invite me over, I am bringing hummus) and we headed out the door. It was absolutely beautiful outside so the day was extremely enjoyable!
My parents always send the family treats for holidays and this year, they set out to send something all of us could eat...Jelly Belly's. I am not much of a sweets person, especially now, but a good game of guess that flavor is always lots of fun! We spent some time the past couple of days playing a good family game. I have to say, by the end of that particular game, you can't really feel your tongue. I don't even want to think about the number of chemicals I just ate. Oh well, everything in moderation...right? Oh and there are fruits in there...right?!
When we got home and everyone got settled in, I sat down to a huge salad of my favorite components!
This baby (or papa) had romaine, cabbage slaw mix, chickpeas, turmeric and hot sauce! YUM!
Speaking of turmeric, this is one of those spices that is known for its' medicinal purposes. After my workout on Friday...which I am just now not feeling in my thighs...I needed some anti inflammatory power! Anyway, turmeric is supposed to have many beneficial properties including digestive help, reducing inflammation, reducing swelling in joints, and cancer prevention. Do you believe in the healing power of foods? I definitely do. I don't believe that you will be completely healed by eating certain things, I just believe that there are components in food that are beneficial to the body and they can aid in total health.
The boys are now on Spring Break, so the schedule around here is going to be a little weird this week! I hope everyone has a great week!

Are the chickpeas toasted on that salad? It looks really good and crunchy!

You're convincing me I need more tumeric in my life
-
Jessica, no they weren't toasted, but I cooked them in the pressure cooker and I leave them a little crunchy. The tumreric, salt and pepper definitely takes them over the top good!

my MIL used to send us a huge easter basket every year.. and I would just take it to work the next day. So I finally had to tell her not to send us stuff.. the problem wasn't that we don't like sweets or chocolate, the problem was we like it way too much.
