Thursday, really??? How can it possibly be Thursday? This week has really been a whirlwind. Monday started off with the usual crazy stuff of getting the kids motivated to get out the door with minimal fights and some kind of food in their systems. Then I got a call from my mom before I got home from dropping off the kids letting me know that my grandmother had fallen and bumped her head. Not a little bump either, the entire side of her head has a horrible bruise from the right side of her forehead to just below her eye. Luckily, she did not break anything, but it appears as though she fainted and we aren't sure why. I rushed back in the door to throw my hair back in a ponytail and put on a little powder to go over and see her. In the middle of that, my mom called again, and asked me to hold tight since my aunt got there and was making sure things were handled at the time. They took her to the hospital and she stayed over night. I got up super early on Tuesday morning to get myself ready and then get the kids to school so I could go over and hang out with my grandmother for the day. It took me 2 hours to get to her, but I spent the best day (even under the circumstances) with her. It made me so sad to leave her then. She does not live far from me, but it is just far enough to make it hard to see her very often. I am going to make a point to get there more often though. I hate that life gets so busy and things get out of your control. Tuesday was one of those days that I will remember forever and now I want more of them. Next up, Wednesday...I had a meeting in the afternoon, so that was my focus for the day. Now, Thursday...is gone. The illustrator and I had some appointments that we needed to go to and now it feels like the day is gone. The boys are out of school tomorrow for the start of their Spring Break, so the next week will be interesting! Hopefully full of good food and fresh air!
(Amazing salad with romaine, green peppers, yellow peppers, carrots, salsa and mung bean sprouts. I love making the sprouts at home and keeping them in the fridge! So easy and inexpensive!)
I am sure you are wondering by now...where's the food. Um, well there really has not been a whole lot of exciting things going on around here as far as food goes. We have done a lot of quick, easy things. I hate when we have to do that because you just don't feel like you have eaten all that well. Of course there is always fresh fruits, salad stuff and snacks, but meal times are always messed up and two times now I have eaten lunch after 3:00. So, that is when you eat everything in sight until your stomach registers that you have eaten enough. The fresh stuff is really starting to dwindle down so I am looking forward to a "stock the pantry" shopping trip tomorrow! I promise, recipes to come...I am really missing my kitchen!!! Since I am a baker at heart, I need to get back to it!
Do you do the stocked pantry thing or are you a meal planner? The illustrator and I have a different opinion on this subject, so I am curious how others think...
WE always have a stocked pantry, but sometimes meals are really bland and boring - cereal is ok by me! :)
ReplyDeletei don't have a pantry per se, but i do keep a lot of (really random) things around. i try to keep basics for meals that i know are easy and good, for those days that i don't want to think too much about dinner. plus, you have to plan for the impending zombie apocalypse ...
ReplyDeleteOh you would be horrified at our household eating habits. We are not meal planners. We are not even really a stocked pantry. But I do tend to buy things to keep around in case we want to use them to make something. In my ideal world, I would plan meals though.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your grandmother
ReplyDelete:( I hope she's ok!!
It's totally fine to have "boring" meals. You do what you gotta do :)
Jessica, cereal is always ok!!!
ReplyDeleteRadioactivegan, trust me, we are prepared for the zombie apocalypse!
Bodhipuff, it is not a perfect world and we all have to eat, right?!
Danielle, she is doing ok, thank you. I don't think you ever eat a boring meal!
Stock that pantry! We can make anything we want if we have a fully stocked pantry. Meal plans fall apart, stocked pantries (is that plural right?) never fail! Also, yes, we will prevail over the zombie apocalypse... only if you let me do the shopping... and tear down the staircase.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to spend such a lovely day with your grandmother! I don't spend nearly enough time with mine.
ReplyDeleteWe keep our pantry stocked. Every now and then we'll plan out a special meal, but we definitely don't plan out each and every meal. We like to keep things spontaneous, hehe! I'm sure we'll change when we have kids and need to plan a bit more, but I like the way we are for now! ;)
I am glad you got to see your grandma and I am so sorry she ahd a scary fall!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delicious looking salad!!
ReplyDeleteI hope your grandmother gets better soon!
Thanks again for stopping by my blog. I always love finding new blogs!
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with your grandmother! I'm glad you got to spend some time with her.
That salad looks super yum! I am looking forward to seeing more of your delicious meals!
It has been a crazy week.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your grandmother. I hope she feels better and heals up quickly.
Definitely a planner! I need an exciting dinner most nights of the week, and I like that to be planned :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog, I look forward to reading more of yours :)
definitely dont do the stocked pantry...only because i have to live paycheck to paycheck and there is no "stocking" and it's more like work with what you can afford... its a GOOD thing i love chicken livers!
ReplyDeleteI am a total meal planner! But, with that said, sometimes life gets in the way and popcorn or frozen pizza it is!
ReplyDeletesarena i feel like some days my food is the same and on those days, i post lots of my mailbox stuff b/c i wonder if ppl must get so sick of seeing my same stuff...truth is, i dont think ppl remember...b/c your eats ALWAYS look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog. Glad to have found yours!
ReplyDeleteI hope your grandmother is doing much better.
I am a stock the pantry person, but really want to be a meal planner. I hate having tons of food in the house, it overwhelms. But I haven't yet mastered the art of meal planning. Ah, goals.
ReplyDeleteooh your mung bean sprouts are nice and thick... I have a hard time getting mine that big.. I am thinking of usuing the upside down jar method and see if it does better.. are you just using any jars or did you buy sprouting jars?
ReplyDeleteGreat Dinner :)
