Not to sound redundant around the blog world, but dang it is hot! Atlanta is supposed to feel like it is 105 today. Seriously, ugh! I got a little on the burned side at the water park yesterday even though I put on loads of sunscreen. We were only out there for a few hours too. I am a sun protection crazy person since my grandfather passed away due to skin cancer. So, when any of us get burned, I feel like I have not done my job. Luckily, the boys did not get burned, so it is just me suffering. I don't stay burned for long though. The Greek side of my skin kicks in and takes over. Not to mention the loads of aloe I slather on to make things better. That stuff is a miracle plant. Everything has pretty much faded other than the burn on my thighs since they never see the light of day! As I get older, I hate wearing shorts. I am a jeans or skirt gal all year round. Do you like to wear shorts? It doesn't help that I am always cold either so I normally wear a cardigan too. We had fun on the fake beach though, so that is all that really matters. I am sad that this is the closest that we will probably get to the beach again this year, but thankful to live close to the lake. Max is sporting his summer mohawk, so his head was sprayed heavily with sunscreen!

On to random eats...apparently I am in the cereal making business these days. Who knew? I have now made 4 batches of cereal/granola in 2 days. Since it has been so hot here everyone has been in the mood for cold foods or snacks more than meals. Truth be told, I have actually been enjoying this. I love making cereal because it has no preservatives, it's all natural and you can control the flavors!
After our walk yesterday,
the illustrator went straight for his homemade cereal instead of his usual bowl of oats...
with banana...
and
Almond Breeze Almond Milk (best milk ever)!
The boys and I put a hurtin' on this peanut butter granola! By hurtin' I mean I made another batch last night!
I actually made the last batches later in the evening when the sun set so I had decided on more waffles. Sorry guys for the repetitive foods, but this really hit the spot. I always thought waffles were so complicated, but they come together so quickly! Now I know you can really do whatever you want with them. After the heat of the day and all the fruit eating...I needed some good old bananas and maple syrup on my waffles.
Best part of the waffle (the holes) and I ate it on my favorite plate! The plate reminds me of my grandmother since we both have a thing or milk glass.
My brain is now spinning with cereal ideas. What are your favorite cereal flavors? Would you make your own from scratch or do you prefer store bought?
that cereal looks amazing - i've never thought to make my own! have you posted the recipe in the past? would love to see it :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I love how much you have waffles, too. They are super easy, and oh so good :) The banana and maple combo is always a winner in my book, too.
LOL at the picture of the boys...that looks like it took some dedication! And I love max's mohawk :)
I love making our own granola from scratch using maple & agave to sweeten it. I put in lots of nuts, seeds and flax as well. I am hoping to make some flake-type cereal or even a mock Wheatabix. I would love to see your recipe for the cereal!
ReplyDeleteYour cereal looks incredible! I need to make it asap!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain with this heat! Stay cool!
Embarassing fact about me- I currently have 11 boxes of cereal in my house. For just myself. Shame... But in my defense, 4 are in the "almost empty" phase and I just recently hit a really good kashi sale... lol
ReplyDeleteI love making my own granola- it's so yum! And you get to control everything that goes into it... which is awesome!
I love that you make your own cereal. I'm too lazy when it comes right down to it LOL. Sorry you got burned. Ouch. I am the sunblock Nazis in my family. If you're around me and in the sun, you should expect for me to nag and make sure you have slathered up once every hour at the least.
ReplyDeleteYour granola squares look so scrumptious!! And I LOVE the mohawk!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh!!! That looks amazing! Everything you make looks awesome. Sarena if I win the lottery I am going to bribe you to come cook for me!! Seriously everything you make look so delicious!!!
ReplyDeleteJessica, the boy can sport a mohawk! I blame you for the waffles...can't get enough of them!
ReplyDeleteBecca, I am working on a few recipes now to share!
Estela, thank you! You stay cool too...it is hot there!
Amy, I am a cereal whore...I won't lie! No need to apologize!
Heather, I am the same with sunscreen. We have to be careful!
Anna, thank you!
Kelly, I would be more than happy to cook for you! So, get to playing the lottery!
All, I can say is:
ReplyDelete- HA!
- cute
- yum!
Thanks for sharing! (Have I mentioned YUM?)
i've never made homemade cereal before! my faves from childhood are golden grahams, and now i love pb puffins and kashi go lean crunch. obviously, it's gotta be big and crunchy!
ReplyDeleteDid you ever post a recipe of the cereal you make? i don't eat much of it but that's really because I eat oats most mornings now. I love making my own granola bars though sometimes that's breakfast for me too!
ReplyDeleteyum! I would definitely take a huge bowl of that cereal! What's in it?
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so good, love waffles and haven't had them in years. I need to get a waffle maker.
