A Working Progress...

We are on day 6 of our home office/studio renovation and we are still not done. The illustrator has worked so hard on making this change over and I have no idea how he is still functioning. Last Wednesday he and I started moving out all of our bedroom furniture. From then, his parents arrived to help out. He and his dad worked on the floors, while I worked on feeding everyone, taking care of the day to day activities and keeping things cleaned up (which with table saws and foot traffic in the house, was a job in and of itself). I am doing a major cleaning on everything too which feels good! By the way, if I never mentioned this before, my in-laws are the best! They are always there for us and we wouldn't be where we are today without them.

Since they left on Saturday morning, the illustrator and I have painted the room and started moving things in. The picture above is just the beginning of the move in. We are obviously lovers of '50s steel case office furniture, so we aren't talking light furniture here. The illustrator plans on doing a post on the room renovation this week, so I will show you guys the whole thing soon.

Just in case you were interested, we work together on his illustration business. He mostly works in comics now (one of the last completely illustrated industries) and he still does some commercial illustration and logos. The illustrator does all of the illustration (obviously, unless you want stick people then I'm your girl) and I do all of the office stuff. I also work on developing recipes in hopes that will lead to something for me one day!

We did a great job of cooking large quantities of main dishes so we just needed quick sides to go along with everything. For me, that worked out perfectly so I could eat some pretty good stuff with them. I cooked a brown sugar glazed ham for them with a side of black eyed peas and rice.  Everybody loved that meal. I sauced mine up with salsa and a little extra hot sauce! I ate this times two. I was pretty surprised how much I ate these past few days. I think it is so strange how I have gotten to the point where I "feel" I need fuel. I can read the signs that my body is giving off (much like running a marathon - I would imagine) and once I ate some good fuel, I was ready to go again. Let's just say many quickly prepared oatmeal peanut butter waffles were consumed...so easy and so good!

I also cooked the oven roasted pulled pork and the illustrator made a sauce in the crockpot with the leftovers for dinner last night. I opted for an egg white omelet with sauteed red peppers, baby bella mushrooms, diced tomatoes, garlic powder and onion powder (all while the pasta cooked). This was the perfect fuel for us to work until 9:30pm last night. There was also a huge bowl of oatmeal with peanut butter "fudge" (3 TBSP peanut flour, 1 TBSP maple syrup and a little water mixed together) eaten for "dessert" after a much needed shower.

Now I am off to do some closet shuffle (sounds like way more fun than it is). Hopefully this will be done by the end of the week!

What is everyone else up to? Gosh, I feel so out of it with the blogworld. I know that sounds silly to some, but I actually feel close to you guys and I feel like I have been out of it for way too long!  Have a great week!

Now we have to finish moving things over in the closets. We now have the smallest bedroom in the house, but it actually feels quite cozy. I slept 9 hours last night in our new bedroom!  Thank goodness...I needed it. I still have to touch up paint in there now since we moved huge things off the walls. One thing has definitely led to the other. This week, I am repainting the bathroom the "master"bathroom and finishing our new bedroom. Now I want to paint the rest of the house!

  9. You have certainly been busy! Renovations are such a pain. And I know what you mean about feeling out of the loop when you can't check in for awhile. I'm sure I'll feel that way a lot soon enough. ;)

  11. It's looking good!! Thanks for the update :) Sounds like you're keeping busy but staying calm, cool and collected. It will all be over soon!
The work you two do sounds like so much fun. Want to adopt me as part of the group?! :P I'll find some sort of artistic service I can offer. You have no idea how admirable I am of the fact that he does illustration for comics, too. I did one and that was enough for my patience!

  14. The room is looking great!! And some yummy sounding meals there to keep you all going too :)

I wish I owned my house so I could paint it :( Luckily the owners weren't scared of a bit of colour so it's better than our old house (which was white..with white and some umm.....white), but still. I'd love to put my own colours on the walls!

Can't wait to see the rest of it come together!

  18. Thanks for the comment! I think those pups are cute too! I personally love the maltipoos and shihpoos -the smallest - but those cockapoos are ADORABLE if you're looking for a mid-sized dog!

Great job on all the cooking - everything sounds awesome. I've never cooked a ham!
