A Soup Day...

I will not lie, yesterday was a stinker. I miss my sisters horribly and I had a rough time snapping out of it. Then, right when we were about to sit down and relax, Leia (our girl cat) ran out while the illustrator was taking the trash out. She ran into the woods behind our house and we spent over an hour in the woods in the dark trying to find her. We were terrified and honestly helpless. There are foxes back there and since she had never been out before, we were sure she was gone forever. The illustrator decided to sleep on the couch just in case she came back. Well, at 2:30, she found her way back. I was so worried and the kids went to bed crying. It was such a relief she came back even if it was the middle of the night!

So, with no sleep last night and a cold rainy day here all day long, it is a soup day! The illustrator treated me to a movie today and then I made his vegetable soup (it is the most comforting soup EVER - he made it for me when I was sick last Christmas and I swear, it just makes me feel good!). We saw "Love and Other Drugs" and I really liked it. It is definitely one of those that you question how you feel about everyone in it. One funny note though, we were in the theater with 2 other couples who were well into their 50s. Um, there is a lot of naked in that movie!  They were all talking about all the nakedness when the lights came on. It felt like we were watching soft porn with our parents...weird!

So, with soup in hand and a fire roaring to sit by tonight, I am calling this one a good day of mental recuperation. I hope everyone else got a good start to the week after a long weekend!

The chili paste on this, makes the soup that much better! The illustrator is right, ya gotta do the chili paste! The burn really does make you feel good!

How do you recover from stress or letdowns from emotional highs?

  1. Wow, that must have been so stressful. I'm glad the cat was found! I'm not sure how I'd recover from that...maybe lots of chocolate? :) I keep hearing good things about that movie, I'll have to go check it out.

  3. You know it's Thanksgiving when you look at that red chili paste blob and wonder why there's cranberry sauce on vegetable soup :P Seriously - I was really worried for a while there, until I read it was chili paste!
I'm so happy Leia came back. I swear - sometimes they just like to give us a good scare!! Too funny about the movie, though :P Glad you were able to have a nice night after a stressful day :)

  4. So glad your cat made it home! Big hugs to you my friend. It's been a blue Monday for me for many reasons - and a soup night here too. Yours looks fantastic.

  5. I'm sorry you're sad about your sisters leaving. I'm glad Leia came back though! My kitties go out during the day but we've had the odd occasion where they've bolted out with someone after dark and I spend many sleepless hours hoping they'll be okay and decide to come back in (generally I hear pinging on the window or banging at the front door and the culprit slinks in without a care in the world >:( )

  6. I'm so glad the kitty came back. What a relief. I can definitely relate to the post-holiday blues, also. Everything seems so quiet now! Luckily, Christmas isn't so far away!! Have a great night, lady.

And I'm really glad you liked the movie! I feel like it's one of those that people with either love or hate. And yes... nakedness everywhere. Not that I minded. I heart Jake. ;)

  9. It's so scary when pets run away! Growing up my parents always had cats (well, they still do), and they are always indoor only and declawed, so when they would get out we would always FREAK and be so stressed and worried until they would find their way back to us! I'm glad she came home safe and sound!

  11. That looks like a perfect meal on this nasty day! I was in a slump today too... as usual, I remedied it with a glass of wine and a new creation in the kitchen. Then I made myself blog 5 things I love.

    Here's to a warmer Tuesday!

  12. I'm so glad she came back! When I was little, I had a cat named Squeeky and he disappeared for three weeks! He left a 40 pound walrus of a cat and came back a skinny 10 pound rack of bones. I told my parents he went to fat camp :)
Glad your kitty is home safe!

  13. My cat Frank has snuck out too in the past, and it is always so emotionally heart-wrenching to look for him! Especially since he has no common sense and I've seen him lie down in the middle of the road just for fun. Once he came back with a dead mouse. Anyway. I am glad your kitty came back!

I had a crappy day yesterday where everything went wrong, and I find a good night's sleep makes a lot of things better. Today is a new day!

Also, I try to avoid sugar - I find it amplifies stressful feelings.

  14. Aw, too funny about the movie! Glad your cat came back :) I usually like to watch one of my favorite movies to recover from any holiday highs/lows. I've been too busy with getting ready for finals, though, to experience any lows right now...unless you count dreading finals? lol Hope you have a nice day!
