I have a lot to do today and I am hoping to sneak a hair trimming (just a trim for today) somewhere along the way. I am the worst about planning ahead for haircuts. I normally just get a but up my butt to do it and then try to find someone to do it. I used to be really loyal to one stylist and then she left the salon that I went to and, since then, I haven't found anyone that I absolutely love. It has been 1 year and 5 months since I got it trimmed. Let's just say I am loving on my hippie side. Well, and I'm going to donate it. I grew up with extremely long hair and, when I went to college, I chopped it to just at my shoulders. I have played with super short cuts before and now I am at a longer length than high school. I am not quite ready to chop it off, but I am getting there. It does, however, need a trimming!
This was taken about a month ago and it is a little longer than this now. I want to have the guts to do a pixie cut, but I don't know if I can do it...I fear I will look like a 14 year old boy and from the look of those shoulders (YIKES, my shoulders are wide) I probably will. This was a straightened day, which I rarely do. My hair is actually very wavy.
Anyway, it dawned on me last night that we never talked about the "kiss" conversation. The boys started asking the illustrator when he first kissed a girl and I had to go hear this story. Granted, I already know the story, in fact, I've met ever girl he dated and am friends with one of them (by the way she is incredible at making cakes and cupcakes...I genius in flavor combinations and super cute to boot). Anyway, I wanted to know how he explained this one. It's a wonder either of us ever found each other since we both are so shy, especially when it comes to the flirting thing. I won't spill the beans on him, but I found it interesting that the boys were asking this. I can't believe my kids are getting old enough to question this stuff. Don't worry, we have a great relationship with them and we talk about everything, so they got the details. It made me think about how lucky I am to have my kids feel like they can talk with us about anything. Trust me, they are still kids and try to get away with things, but at least they know they can always come to us. Since I consider you all my friends, if you have kids or ever want to have kids, always be there for them...no matter what. Like I told my kids, I won't always agree with your decisions, but I will be there for you no matter what. There is nothing worse than feeling like you don't have anyone to catch you if you fall.
Wow, that came out of no where...sorry. I guess I needed to say my peace on that.
Well, it's Friday! How about we do something fun! How about a give away? Well, later today, I will be posting it. That's not a teaser...I just haven't typed up my review yet.
I will leave you with my new favorite pancake flavor combination...
Sauteed apples with raisins...
pure maple syrup...
and peanut butter!
This was an amazing flavor combination...
I was sad when it was over!
Have you ever donated your hair before? Tony jokes that I am donating it to merkins (which grosses me out-if you don't know what it is, I'll let you google it, I refuse to link to it). No, I am donating it to Locks of Love.
Did you speak openly about kissing with your parents? I would never have asked mine about their first kiss. I was way too shy.
Wow, Your hair is gorgeous!! I've never had my hair that long before. I can see how it'd be hard to cut it. You'll look gorgeous with any length of hair :)
ReplyDeleteWow your hair is long!!! Can't wait to see the new shorter cute. I think you will enjoy it! I had long hair (not as long as yours) and I wanted to donate it as well but I had color in it. I was bummed!
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome you're going to donate your hair. I wish I would have done that when I first cut mine off. I think you'd be adorable with a pixie cut by the way, especially if your hair has wave and texture. Mine is straight and super fine (but oddly thick) so I have to use a ton of product.
ReplyDeleteOh, and no way did I ever talk about kissing with my parents...especially my dad!!!
You can totally pull of a Pixie, your will look cute no matter what your haircut. And I don't just say that because you look like me. :)
ReplyDeleteLet me know when you decide to cut it!
I had no idea your hair was so long!! It is gorgeous! I am all about long hair, but have donated mine twice. I just get the urge and am like, it all needs to be cut off!
ReplyDeleteYour face is pretty feminine, I don't think you'd have problems. There are people though who just don't have eyes in their head: short hair=boy. I never took it as an insult. Ask Karl about the time the movie front desk was ready to sell him tickets for him and his "son". I literally fell on the floor laughing.
ReplyDeleteCat Story
wow, your hair is so pretty! I go for over a year w/o getting my hair trimmed -- I don't get split ends so I don't worry about it until someone comes at me with some scissors....last time was October 2009 for my wedding :) But i've been thinking about donating it, and this post is inspiring me to look into it. Thanks !
ReplyDeleteI've donated my hair to locks of love several times (like you, I've never found a perfect stylist since I lost "the one" so I just let it grow). I think it's a great charity, and it's nice to know you're donating to such a worthy cause.
ReplyDeleteMy parents (aka my mom) were super conservative and definitely did not make me feel comfortable talking about that kind of stuff when I was younger. I pretend that I make up for it now by saying all the things she doesn't really want to hear but will listen anyways (sorry mom- but the facial expressions are priceless!).
ReplyDeleteAnd your hair is so long! Good for you for donating. I would like to donate to a cause, but really can't imagine myself ever being comfortable with taking more than 2-3 inches off at a time...
Your hair is soooo pretty! I've donated twice - once to Locks of Love and once to Pantene's Kindest Cut which makes wigs for women with cancer. I loved doing it both times. Still growing it out from the last time and will donate again when it gets long enough.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could pull off a pixie cut! I think it would look fabulous on you! :)
Your hair looks so healthy! When mine gets long...it's kinda ratty at the bottom...
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to be open with my parents about kissing (well, we don't talk about it now, but when I was a kid)...because they were each other's first kiss.
I'd much rather just be open about everything!

Your hair is beautiful! I am definitely bad about waiting too long between haircuts, I've had the same problem of losing my stylist and not finding anyone else I trust. Mine was long enough to sit on in high school!
ReplyDeleteYour hair is just gorgeous! I wish my hair would grow to that length but it just won't :-/ I also have a hard time going to get my hair cut, I just don't really enjoy it too much. I am still way too shy to ask my parents about their first kisses! Haha I love how you described your parenting, it reminds me of my parents and I know it has made me into who I am today. Support is so necessary!
ReplyDeletei didn't realize your hair was so long! it's GORGEOUS! i'd love to see you with short hair too. it would definitely frame that pretty face of yours :)
ReplyDeleteYour hair is so beautiful and shiny, Sarena! Mine is getting pretty long, too and I was just telling my friend that I'm fighting the urge to do something different. I tend to just decide to do it and do it that day. We'll see what happens.
ReplyDeleteI loved what you said about being there for your kids no matter what. I'm very open with my parents and feel comfortable talking about anything. I'm very glad that the boys have that, too. Its pretty awesome. :)
Happy Friday!!
Your hair is so long! I want mine to get like that so badly! Don't cut it, it's too perfect.
ReplyDeletePeople are shocked with the way I am with my parents. Its like they're my best friends and when people hear me talk on the phone to them they never guess that it was my parents I was talking to. I never have asked them about their first kisses, but I definitely would. I don't see the point in feeling awkward or having to be proper with the people that made me.
Your hair is beautiful! I'm actually in the process of growing mine out long enough so I can donate it. I was going to cut it really short about a month ago but then realized I only had an inch or two more to go before it was the right length to donate, so I feel your anxiety, too. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYour hair is gorgeous! Seriously, it looks great for not being trimmed in over a year.
ReplyDeleteCan I be nosy and ask what shampoo/conditioner you use? I'm sure your diet contributes a LOT to the healthiness of your hair/skin etc.
Your hair is beautiful! Love it :D My sister in law donated her hair. I wouldn't mind donating mine but I have a lot of growing to do :D Haha, yeah I don't talk to my parents about that kind of stuff. I am curious to know though :D
ReplyDeleteYour hair is SO PRETTY! I am on a regrowing out my own hair mission... I cut it all off on a bad day a couple years ago and miss it terribly! I have some serious German shoulders btw. ;)
ReplyDelete"There is nothing worse than feeling like you don't have anyone to catch you if you fall."
I love you tremendously for this sentiment and your relationship with your children. If I ever have kids I am going to strive for this... I didn't have that luxury as a kid and it got me into some weird situations to say the least. Having an open communication relationship is SO important in my eyes!!
Like everyone else said, your hair is just gorgeous! How wonderful that you are donating it. :-) Finding a good stylist is so tough, and I have very simple requirements. My current one is fantastic, but he's not getting enough business. I'm hoping things will turn around for him and for me!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Shirley
Your hair has gotten so long since I last saw you even. I wish mine grew like that.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy hair simply does not look good long although I love the idea of it. I went short a couple years back and I haven't gone long again...don't know if I will.
what beautiful hair!! so pretty
ReplyDeleteAnd you are such a great mother!!
That's adorable1 My mom and I are really close, but I don't think we've ever talked "first kiss." I'm going to ask her now though! :)
ReplyDeleteI donated my hair in 2007. It is such a great cause and I received the sweetest card in thanks. You have gorgeous hair - I know it will be much-appreciated!
I don't think my hair would grow that long ever. Yours is so beautiful and shiny!
ReplyDeleteYou are such a good mom! :)
My hair used to be that long! I miss it. I know you'll look fabulous with any cut. Can't wait to see what you do.
ReplyDeleteMy mom was always very open with me and wanted me to come to her with anything. I was lucky that way. She felt that if we could talk about those kinds of things we wouldn't go experimenting. haha! It was true though so she was right :)
I would LOVE to be able to donate my hair (and yours is gorgeous by the way), and I could ABSOLUTELY see you rocking the pixie! You have a great face for it lady! (And we actually had a long conversation about merkins yesterday...)
ReplyDeleteI have started started my non dairy lifestyle, and am very excited to find your blog. Thank you so much. I have had chronic stomach issues my whole life, and have recently found out I have dairy allergies. WOW, I have been doing it for about 3 months and everything is better!! YEAH! THANK YOU!!!!
ReplyDeleteps- my parents never spoke to me about boys or kissing or anything of that nature. I sure wish they had. It is hard enough to be a kid, but not having people to talk about it with besides peers you are already nervous with... well, thankfully, i had good friends in college to help me through the tough parts!
ppss- good for you for the hair donation. i cut off my extremely long hair a few years ago. don't worry it grows faster than you think
:-)
You could totally rock a pixie haircut!
ReplyDeleteWow, Sarena, your hair is gorgeous! I am actually growing mine out to donate too! It technically already meets the 10in length requirement, but I don't want to go too short with it. This will be the second time I will have donated. The first time, I went SUPER short...right at my jaw line! I liked it, but it was hard to manage since it wasn't long enough to pull up.
ReplyDeleteI think a pixie cut would look super cute on you! You have the perfect shaped face for it!
i am thinking bout donating my hair to pantene but it is not long enuf yet. It is about 15-16 in from scalp to tips and i have a round face so i cant get like chin length. I want short hair sooo bad. Also, I think you should donate cuz itll grow back an hair grows 1/2 inch in one month so dont worry. You would look AMAZING with short hair or long. Do what ur comfy w!! :) :) :)
